Pahlaj Nihalani, Veteran Film Producer, Passes Away

Mumbai, June 4 (ANI) – Veteran film producer Pahlaj Nihalani, known for his significant contributions to the Hindi film industry, passed away on June 4 at the age of 76.

Nihalani, a prominent figure in Bollywood, produced numerous successful films throughout his career, including well-known titles like Ilzaam, Shola Aur Shabnam, Aankhen, and Andaz. He had a long-standing partnership with the popular filmmaker David Dhawan and actor Govinda.

His family shared the sad news and mentioned that his last rites would take place later that day.

In a heartfelt statement, the family expressed their grief, stating, “With profound sadness, we inform you of the passing of our beloved Pahlaj Nihalani on 4th June 2026. The cremation ceremony will be held today at 3 PM at Santacruz Hindu Crematorium. We appreciate your thoughts and prayers as we say our final goodbye.”

Nihalani began his journey in the film industry in the early 1980s, with his first production, Haathkadi, released in 1982. This was followed by Aandhi-Toofan in 1985.

Over the years, he became known for backing several hits like Gunahon Ka Faisla, Paap Ki Duniya, and Mitti Aur Sona. His film Aankhen indeed stood out as one of the biggest Bollywood blockbusters of the 1990s, solidifying his status as a successful producer.

In addition to his work in production, Nihalani also served as the chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). His most recent production was the 2017 film Julie 2.
