David Miller stole the show in the first T20I match between South Africa and Pakistan on December 10, scoring an impressive 82 runs off just 40 balls. His dazzling performance at Kingsmead in Durban came after his team faced a challenging start, putting the Proteas back on track.
South Africa, with a second-choice lineup led by Heinrich Klaasen in place of Aiden Markram, chose to bat first but struggled early on. Reeza Hendricks only managed to score 8 runs, Matthew Breetzke was dismissed for a duck, and Rassie van der Dussen couldn’t make much of an impact either. The team found themselves in a tough spot when Klaasen was out for 12 runs, falling to Abbas Afridi’s bowling. At 56/4, things were looking grim for the hosts.
However, Miller turned the match around with his explosive batting. He took control right from his first ball, displaying a variety of powerful shots that got the crowd buzzing. One of the highlights of his innings was when he hit leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed for 21 runs in a single over, which included three consecutive sixes. His ability to score quickly and keep the scoreboard ticking gave South Africa much-needed momentum.
Miller’s innings was filled with impressive boundaries and towering sixes, leading many to believe he was on his way to a century. Unfortunately, he was out in the 14th over, bowled by Shaheen Afridi after a brilliant delivery. Still, by the time he left the field, he had laid a solid foundation that helped South Africa recover from a shaky start and regain control in the match.
