Hayden is helping players find their “process zone,” a mental space where performing feels natural. “In a tournament like the IPL, staying confident and steady is crucial. He’s been amazing in guiding us toward that,” added Phillips.

The arrival of a batting coach can often heighten expectations for players to score heavily. However, Phillips defended his role in the team, stating that his personal success is defined by how he contributes to the team’s goals rather than individual accolades.
When asked about converting small innings into big scores, Phillips acknowledged the unique situations he often finds himself in. “Sometimes I come in with just a few balls left, and it’s tough to score big in those circumstances,” he explained.
For him, the “Hayden mindset” is all about putting the team first. “If I’m needed to go in late and just score a few quick runs, I’ll do my best. If the pitch is challenging, I want to help the team push through. It’s all about being as consistent as possible in whatever role is assigned to me.”
As GT aims for their third win in a row on April 17, the blend of Hayden’s legendary insights and Phillips’ adaptable playing style might provide the advantage they need against KKR’s strong spin bowlers.
