MK Stalin Criticizes Delimitation Draft Bill as Misleading

On Friday, MK Stalin, the President of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), condemned the delimitation draft bill proposed by the central government, labeling it a “calculated deception.”

Stalin urged the central government to refrain from rushing the bill, arguing that careful consideration is essential for such important legislation. He remarked, “Today marks a significant moment in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape. It is the culmination of our ongoing struggle against delimitation.”

Despite DMK’s strong protests regarding the bill, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have reassured Parliament that Tamil Nadu’s representation will remain intact. However, Stalin expressed skepticism, stating, “Their statements may say one thing, but their actions tell a different story. This bill cannot be trusted, and we firmly reject it.”

Stalin cautioned that the proposed changes could allow the government to modify state representation for political gain, branding the legislation as a “dangerous trap.” He demanded that the government not push the bill through Parliament hastily, warning of potential repercussions in Tamil Nadu if they do.

He also called for the restoration of constitutional safeguards that were previously established by former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Atal Bihari Vajpayee, which froze delimitation. “Our demands are straightforward. The BJP government must listen to the people of Tamil Nadu,” he stated on social media.
