Apple Secures Patent for Smart Security Camera with Body Recognition Technology: Report

Apple, the company known for its innovative tech, is reportedly stepping into the security camera arena with a fresh approach. Their new technology features facial recognition along with a distinctive “bodyprint” system that can recognize individuals based on their face and physical features.

According to a recently published patent by the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), this advanced security camera can identify people even if their faces are not clearly visible. Instead, it can use images of their upper bodies or clothing as identification, as noted by Gadgets 360.

This development builds on Apple’s existing facial recognition capabilities, which are already part of devices like iPhones. The new security camera aims to enhance identification by incorporating a “bodyprint” function. The camera would take pictures of a person’s body to analyze characteristics, creating a detailed profile linked to their facial features. This means it could recognize someone even if their face is hidden, based on details such as their body shape or the style of their clothing.

To facilitate this, the camera would continuously capture and store images of people approaching a residence. These images would be processed using deep learning technology, which would help the system understand the different physical traits of various individuals.

When the system detects a potential match, it would alert the user with a live video feed from the security camera, which can be viewed on devices like iPhones, iPads, or Apple TVs.

This patent news comes as Apple appears to be planning a broader move into smart home technology. Alongside the new security camera, there are indications that the company is looking to develop a variety of smart home devices. These might include a privacy-conscious home camera and a central hub that connects various smart devices, all while integrating Apple’s services like FaceTime for easier control of home environments.
