Kolkata Weather Update: Cooler Temperatures and Rain Expected on Poll Day
Kolkata is set for a more pleasant weather day on Wednesday, coinciding with the city’s polling day. Temperatures are expected to remain significantly lower than the usual levels.
The meteorological department has issued a rain alert for the city, with predictions of gusty winds accompanying the rainfall. On Monday, some areas experienced light rain, and the maximum temperature recorded was 32.6°C—three degrees below normal. By Wednesday, it’s anticipated that the temperature will drop further to around 31°C.
According to a special bulletin from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), light to moderate thundershowers are forecasted for several districts, including East and West Burdwan, Bankura, West Midnapore, Hooghly, Howrah, Kolkata, and both North and South 24 Parganas. Thunderstorms and gusty winds may also impact one or two locations within these areas.
Although nor’wester weather patterns typically develop in the evenings or nights, officials suggest that the city may experience a couple of rain spells on Tuesday as well, which could help lower minimum temperatures and make the weather more bearable.
It’s been over ten days since Kolkata had a break from the nor’wester phenomena, even though temperatures recently peaked at this season’s high of 36.8°C. Fortunately, recent thundershowers in surrounding districts have provided some relief, easing the city’s heat.
