Outrage Grows Over Dolphin Incident in Ceuta
In the Spanish enclave of Ceuta, a disturbing video has surfaced showing a group of migrants celebrating as they allegedly harm a baby dolphin, raising alarms and anger among local residents. The footage depicts men and boys lifting the young dolphin above their heads while cheers erupt from onlookers.
Witnesses reported that the dolphin was pulled from the waters near El Trampolin beach, supposedly after it swam too close to the shore. The incident escalated when one of the men reportedly struck the dolphin with a stick, leading to its possible death. As cheers mingled with shouts of “no” from concerned bystanders, attempts were made to intervene and stop the actions.
A person eventually returned the dolphin to the water, but the damage had already been done, leaving many in Ceuta outraged. Local resident Nadia Garcia Gomez took to social media, expressing her horror and urging for the individuals involved to face justice. She described the incident as extreme and unjustifiable cruelty, noting that dolphins are protected by Spanish and European laws.
The disheartening event has highlighted rising tensions in Ceuta, where the community faces challenges stemming from a surge of migrants from Morocco. Recently, over 70,000 migrants made their way to the enclave, leading to calls for deportations and stricter measures from the government. Frustrated locals even destroyed migrant shelters in reaction to the ongoing crisis.
The calls for accountability over the dolphin incident reflect deeper concerns within Ceuta, as residents grapple with the impacts of migration and the treatment of wildlife in their region.
