Vinod Kambli in ICU, Receiving Care for Urinary Tract Infection

Former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a private hospital in Thane. On Tuesday, he developed a fever, but doctors say his overall condition is stable. Kambli, who is 52 years old, was initially hospitalized at Akruti Hospital near Bhiwandi on Saturday, December 21, due to complications from a urinary tract infection.

Dr. Vivek Trivedi, who is leading the medical team looking after Kambli, reported that the cricketer is responding well to his treatment. While doctors had planned to conduct an MRI scan to further investigate his health, the development of a fever means they will assess the situation before proceeding with this non-invasive procedure. The MRI is necessary after earlier tests uncovered blood clots in his brain.

Dr. Trivedi mentioned that Kambli could be moved out of the ICU within a day or two, with hopes of discharge after roughly four days. His condition took a critical turn four days ago when he suffered from a severe urinary infection that resulted in the accumulation of pus in his bladder, which has since been resolved during his hospital stay.

Kambli was brought to the hospital after his blood pressure began to fluctuate, and remaining home could have worsened his health. Currently, his condition is stable, and doctors will continue to monitor him closely over the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, support has poured in for Kambli from Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and the Shrikant Shinde Foundation, which is led by his MP son, Shrikant Shinde. Following instructions from Eknath Shinde, his Officer on Special Duty (OSD), Mangesh Chiwte, visited the hospital to check on Kambli’s health and coordinate with the medical staff to ensure he receives top-notch care.

In addition, Shrikant Shinde announced a financial aid package of Rs 5 lakh for Kambli, which will be provided through his foundation next week. He has also promised to offer further support to Kambli and his family in the coming days.

Kambli expressed his heartfelt thanks to Eknath Shinde and his son, Shrikant, for their kindness and assistance during this difficult time. He hopes to personally meet with the Deputy Chief Minister soon to express his gratitude. Eknath and Shrikant Shinde are expected to visit him in the hospital shortly.
