Exciting Announcement: Bahrain Grand Prix Moves to Malaysia in 2026
Formula 1 and the FIA have exciting news for racing fans! The 2026 Bahrain Grand Prix will take place at Malaysia’s Sepang International Circuit from October 2 to 4. This thrilling event will fit right between the Azerbaijan and Singapore Grand Prix races on the schedule.
However, the race is still subject to final agreements and approval by the FIA World Motor Sport Council. It will officially be called the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia.
This arrangement came about thanks to a partnership between Formula 1, the FIA, and the governments of Bahrain and Malaysia. It secures Bahrain’s place in the 2026 calendar, even though the initial hosting plans could not move forward. Thankfully, the rest of the racing schedule remains unchanged.
F1 noted that this move showcases Bahrain’s commitment to the racing championship, as it was the first Middle Eastern country to host a Formula 1 race back in 2004. Additionally, Malaysia’s readiness to step in at short notice made this transition possible. The sport highlighted this agreement as a prime example of its flexibility in keeping a full calendar for fans, teams, and partners.
Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1, expressed his excitement, stating, “This is fantastic news for our fans. They will continue to enjoy a full and exciting Formula 1 calendar, while also seeing the sport return to a great venue. Malaysia is an incredible country, and Sepang holds a special place in Formula 1 history. It will provide a spectacular setting for racing and an unforgettable experience for fans both at the circuit and watching around the world.”
