Sathiyan Gnanasekaran Leads Dabang Delhi TTC to Victory
In a thrilling match on Monday, Sathiyan Gnanasekaran stepped up as the captain of Dabang Delhi TTC, guiding his team to a 9-6 victory over Ahmedabad APL Pipers in the Butterfly Ultimate Table Tennis (UTT) Season 7. The match took place at the Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium, and Sathiyan played a key role, securing important wins in both men’s singles and mixed doubles.
The match began with both teams eager to gain an edge. Delhi was the first to score when Youssef Abdelaziz won a close three-game battle against Adrien Rassenfosse, clinching victory on a Golden Point. However, Ahmedabad’s Sofia Polcanova brought her team back in the game with her own Golden Point win against Maria Xiao.
As the tension built, Sathiyan and Xiao teamed up in the mixed doubles, reclaiming the lead for Delhi by defeating Polcanova and Payas Jain. This moment set the stage for Sathiyan’s impressive singles match. Facing Payas, he delivered a powerful performance, winning in straight games and solidifying Delhi’s control over the match.
Though Ahmedabad’s captain, Manika Batra, secured a win over Sutirtha Mukherjee later on, it wasn’t enough to change the outcome. Delhi’s victory not only marked their third win of the season but also strengthened their chances for the playoffs.
Sathiyan was recognized for his outstanding effort, earning both the ChatGPT Match IQ Player and Indian Player of the Tie awards. Meanwhile, Polcanova was named the Foreign Player of the Tie and also received the Bisleri Shot of the Tie honor.
