Mumbai Stock Market Update: Indexes Decline Amid Banking Sector Losses

Mumbai – On Monday, Indian stock markets closed lower, primarily driven by declines in banking and financial stocks, which overshadowed gains made in other sectors. Investor sentiment was also weighed down by rising tensions between the United States and Iran.

The Sensex dropped by 443 points, which is a 0.57 percent decrease, finishing at 77,708.52. Meanwhile, the Nifty fell by 96 points, or 0.39 percent, closing at 24,238.50.

Market experts suggest that the Nifty index faces immediate resistance in the range of 24,300 to 24,400. A strong push above this level could lead to further upward movement toward 24,500 to 24,600, according to one analyst.

Conversely, the immediate support level for the index is identified at 24,100. If it falls below this mark, it could lead to more selling pressure, potentially pushing the index down to the psychological barrier of 24,000.

Significant losses were seen in major banking stocks, with Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, and Maruti Suzuki India among the biggest decliners in the Nifty index.

Despite this downturn, the broader market showed some resilience, with the Nifty MidCap index gaining 0.6 percent and the Nifty SmallCap index rising by 0.16 percent.

In sector performance, both the Nifty Private Bank and Nifty Financial Services faced the largest declines, while the Nifty Pharma and Nifty PSU Bank sectors experienced notable gains.

Analysts pointed out that investors are remaining cautious as they keep an eye on the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, particularly concerning the Strait of Hormuz, which is adding to market uncertainty.

As tensions extend into a ninth day, the situation between the US and Iran is increasingly impacting global sentiment, according to market observations.
