Apple Music Raises Subscription Prices
Apple Music has announced a price increase for its subscription plans, marking the first change in nearly four years. This hike affects users in India, the US, the UK, and various other regions.
The company cites rising music licensing costs as the reason behind this increase. In India, the cost for the individual plan will now be ₹139 per month, while the family plan—covering up to six people—will be priced at ₹229. The student plan has been set at ₹69 per month, and Apple One bundles will start at ₹195.
In the US, the individual Apple Music plan has risen to $11.99, an increase of one dollar. The family plan has jumped from $16.99 to $19.99, and the student plan now costs $6.99, up from $5.99. While these prices have gone up, Apple Music remains cheaper than its main competitor, Spotify, which raised its Premium plan to $12.99 earlier this year. YouTube Music is at a similar price point to Apple, while in India, YouTube Music continues to be the most budget-friendly option among popular services.
Interestingly, some subscribers are questioning whether the increased fees will benefit the artists, but Apple has not provided clarity on that matter.
