Pakistan’s World Cup Hopes Dwindle After Loss to Bangladesh

Pakistan’s chances of advancing in the Women’s T20 World Cup took a serious hit following a 20-run defeat to Bangladesh at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Chasing a target of 164 runs, Pakistan started strong at 69 for two after 11 overs. However, they faced a shocking batting collapse later in the match.

In the last nine overs, Pakistan managed to score only 20 runs, allowing Bangladesh to clinch a thrilling victory. With two matches still left in the group stage, Pakistan’s qualification is no longer under their control.

If India wins against South Africa on Sunday in Manchester, Pakistan will officially be out of the tournament.

Bangladesh’s Remarkable Comeback

Bangladesh made a stunning recovery after a shaky start, finishing their innings at 123/6. The team was in trouble early on when Fatima Sana took two wickets in the opening over, leaving Bangladesh at a precarious 13/3.

Captain Nigar Sultana Joty played a crucial role in the recovery, scoring 36 runs off 38 balls with five boundaries. She was supported by Sobhana Mostary, who added 22 runs off 19 balls, helping to stabilize the innings.

Pakistan’s bowlers kept things tight during the middle overs, with Fatima Sana ending with impressive figures of 2 wickets for just 18 runs. Nashra Sandhu also bowled well, giving away only 14 runs in four overs. Other bowlers like Sadia Iqbal and Tasmia Rubab contributed by taking a wicket each.

As Bangladesh looked to settle for a low score, Shorna Akter stepped up with a quick-fire 39 runs off just 22 balls. Her spirited innings, which included five boundaries, helped push Bangladesh to a respectable total. While it’s not a high score, the team will gain confidence from their determination after an early scare.

Stay tuned for more updates.
