“Main Vaapas Aaunga” Sees Growth at the Box Office
The film Main Vaapas Aaunga, directed by Imtiaz Ali, had a slow start but is proving to be a hit over the weekdays. On its second Friday, the film earned Rs. 2 crores, surpassing its first Friday’s collection of Rs. 1.28 crores. This upward trend continued on its second Saturday, leading cinemas to add more early morning and late-night shows to meet the rising demand.
Notably, the PVR C&B Square in Mumbai will host a screening at 2:00 AM this Sunday, while PVR Nexus in Bengaluru has an early show at 6:50 AM that is quickly filling up. As word-of-mouth spreads, many theaters are increasing their showtimes to accommodate eager audiences.
Gautam Dutta, CEO of PVR INOX Limited, shared some insights. He noted that they are closely monitoring the film’s steady performance, indicating consistent audience interest. The positive response is attributed to Imtiaz Ali’s storytelling, Naseeruddin Shah’s compelling performance, and A R Rahman’s captivating music. Even with new films hitting theaters, Main Vaapas Aaunga has shown remarkable persistence.
Ritesh Arora, Programming Head at MovieMax, noted the film’s turnaround during the week, with ticket sales steadily improving. He mentioned that additional screenings are being added due to increasing demand.
Devang Sampat, Managing Director of Cinepolis, pointed out that they’ve increased showings by 30% from Friday to Saturday. This decision comes in response to growing occupancy levels across their 497 screens in India.
In West Bengal, the number of shows skyrocketed from 24 on Friday to over 50, with expectations to exceed 75 shows for Sunday, reflecting strong audience interest.
Produced by Birla Studios, Applause Entertainment, and Window Seat Films, Main Vaapas Aaunga is becoming a notable success story at the box office.
