Abundantia Entertainment, a prominent independent content studio in India, has made headlines once again. Less than a week after its global premiere on Netflix, their new film, Maa Behen, featuring stars like Madhuri Dixit, Triptii Dimri, Dharna Durga, and Ravi Kishan, has secured the impressive #2 spot on Netflix’s Global Top 10 Non-English Films chart. It’s also trending in 15 countries across Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.
The film, directed by Suresh Triveni and produced by Vikram Malhotra and Suresh Triveni, launched on Netflix on June 4, 2026. It immediately made a splash on the international scene. Maa Behen is the first of two Netflix Original projects from Abundantia Entertainment set to release in 2026, with the second being ‘Family Business,’ featuring Anil Kapoor and Vijay Varma.
Vikram Malhotra, the Founder and CEO of Abundantia Entertainment, expressed his excitement over the film’s success, saying, “The reaction to Maa Behen is truly rewarding. Beyond the numbers, what really touches me is the conversation it has started and the love it’s receiving globally. When a story about three flawed, yet funny and relatable women connects with audiences in India, the UAE, Europe, and beyond, it shows the power of universal human stories. Abundantia has always believed in the impact of authentic Indian stories told with passion and skill. I am immensely proud of Suresh Triveni’s brilliant storytelling, Pooja Tolani’s writing, and the amazing performances from Madhuri, Triptii, and Dharna, who brought these characters to life with so much heart and humor. Our partnership with Netflix is off to a fantastic start with this film resonating worldwide.”
Maa Behen further enhances Abundantia Entertainment’s strong track record of female-driven narratives. The studio has consistently focused on women-centric stories, aiming to highlight female protagonists. Earlier successes include Shakuntala Devi (2020), the well-received biographical film on India’s Human Computer featuring Vidya Balan; Sherni (2021) and Jalsa (2022), both of which showcased nuanced female leads, also starring Vidya Balan; and Chhorii (2021), a groundbreaking horror film centered on women’s experiences that became one of Prime Video’s most viewed Indian originals. This trajectory continued with Chhorii 2 (2025), Sukhee (2023) highlighting the journey of a homemaker, and Daldal (2026), a crime thriller led by Bhumi Pednekar that topped charts on Prime Video India for weeks and gained global attention.
The heart of Maa Behen revolves around Rekha, played by Madhuri Dixit, a controversial figure in her conservative neighborhood, along with her daughters Jaya and Sushma. Their chaotic lives take a sudden turn when they unexpectedly find a dead body in their kitchen, leading to a wildly entertaining and humorous journey of women tackling societal expectations and personal dilemmas.
