Germany opened their World Cup campaign with a bang, defeating Curacao 7-1 and putting an end to their disappointing streak in early matches. The four-time World Cup champions had lost their opening games in the last two tournaments but came out strong this time. Just 69 seconds after the restart, Jamal Musiala scored the fourth goal, making it feel like the Germans were in practice mode. By this point, they had taken over 15 shots, finishing the match with a total of 26 attempts, 11 of which were on target. Nagelsmann made several substitutions, but Curacao couldn’t find their footing again. Undav added to the tally in the 78th minute, while Havertz wrapped up the night with a well-placed goal just before the final whistle.
