Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar Disqualified from ISSF World Cup Final Due to Equipment Issue

Indian shooter Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar faced disqualification from the men’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions (3P) final at the ISSF World Cup on Friday, caused by a technical problem with his equipment that was identified just before the medal round. Tomar had earlier shown strong performance, placing fifth in the qualification round with a score of 592.

Before the medal event, ISSF technicians conducted a post-competition equipment check and discovered a discrepancy with the shooter’s rifle. According to a source from the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), Tomar had been using the same weapon for a year, and it had passed the pre-competition check without issue. After the qualification round, however, the weapon was deemed faulty during the follow-up inspection.

The Indian team appealed against the decision, highlighting that the weapon had passed all necessary checks prior to the competition. Unfortunately, their appeal was unsuccessful, and Tomar remained disqualified.

This setback could influence Tomar’s chances for selection to compete in the Asian Games, as his scores in this prestigious event are significant. A source mentioned that the team might need to organize selection trials due to this incident.

Over the past few years, Tomar has become one of India’s leading marksmen, showcasing his skills at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and preparing for the upcoming Paris 2024 Games. He earned a silver medal in the 50m rifle 3 positions at last year’s ISSF World Championships in Cairo, matching his national qualifying record of 597/600. Recently, he also defended his continental title in New Delhi, making a remarkable 10.7 on his last shot in the Asian Championship. Additionally, he won a silver medal at the last World Cup Final in Doha under the new event format.
