RCB’s Rajat Patidar Updates on Phil Salt’s Injury Status Ahead of Qualifier 1
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain Rajat Patidar shared some encouraging news about opener Phil Salt, who is on the brink of returning from an injury just in time for their Qualifier 1 match against Gujarat Titans. While fans are eager to see him back, the team is still weighing the final decision about his participation in the game in Dharamsala.
RCB secured a top spot in the points table despite facing a tough loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad in their last game. In a press conference before the match, Patidar confirmed that Salt has begun training again, but the team plans to make a last-minute choice about including him in the lineup.
“Salt is doing well. He’s being monitored by the doctor and has been doing some drills, but we haven’t finalized our playing eleven yet. We will assess the pitch conditions and then decide,” Patidar stated.
Salt’s Potential Impact on RCB
Salt’s return could provide a significant boost to RCB’s batting lineup as they head into the playoffs. Before his injury, the England opener was known for his aggressive style, playing a vital role in helping RCB achieve a top-two finish. His explosive batting during the powerplay overs helped RCB gain critical momentum throughout the season.
The team has faced challenges during his absence, particularly after Jacob Bethell suffered a finger injury during a match against Punjab Kings. This injury meant Bethell missed a key game against Sunrisers Hyderabad, which forced RCB to rework their batting lineup. Venkatesh Iyer stepped up to open alongside Virat Kohli and made a quickfire 44 runs off just 19 balls in a tough chase against SRH, although they ultimately fell short.
If Salt is cleared to play in Qualifier 1, he will likely return to the starting lineup, which might move Iyer back to the middle order—where he initially played this season.
Praise for Venkatesh Iyer
Patidar also commended Venkatesh Iyer for his adaptability during the season. Despite having fewer opportunities at the start, Iyer was willing to adjust his role as needed.
“I’ve known Venky since our childhood days. He has a great attitude and is willing to bat anywhere in the order,” Patidar remarked. “He was an important player at KKR, but when he joined us, he didn’t get many chances at first. He accepted that and made sure he was ready when his moment came.”
As RCB prepares for this crucial matchup against the Gujarat Titans, a win would not only secure a spot in the IPL 2026 final but also give the team some much-needed rest ahead of the championship game.
