Megan Schutt to Make T20 World Cup 2026 Her Last Major Tournament

Megan Schutt, the renowned Australian fast bowler, has announced that the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 in England and Wales will be her last major ICC tournament. After more than a decade in international cricket, she is getting ready to hand over the reins to the younger players in the sport.

Since her international debut in 2012, Schutt has built a reputation as one of the best fast bowlers in women’s cricket. At 33 years old, she has taken over 300 wickets across all formats and has played a vital role in Australia’s cricketing success in recent years.

Reflecting on Australia’s recent semi-final losses in ICC tournaments, Schutt shared that these disappointments have stung, especially after enjoying many victorious moments in her career. However, they also motivate her to ensure that the next generation of players can taste World Cup glory.

“I’m competitive in everything I do, which can be both good and bad. These last two semi-final losses have hurt, especially since I’ve been part of a lot of successes,” Schutt said. “I want to help the younger players who haven’t yet won a World Cup to get that experience.”

Known for her ability to swing the ball and perform under pressure, Schutt holds the record for the most wickets in Women’s T20 World Cup history, with 48 wickets in 29 matches, maintaining an economy rate of 5.65.

No Complete Retirement Yet

Even though Schutt has confirmed that she won’t participate in another ICC tournament after the T20 World Cup, she is not planning to retire from cricket completely. She emphasized that she hasn’t set a specific timeline for leaving the sport.

“I’m not much of a planner; I prefer to go with the flow. But with World Cups happening frequently, there’s always a new goal to chase, and eventually, a decision needs to be made,” she explained.

As Australia prepares for the Women’s T20 World Cup, they are looking to secure their seventh title, a record. The tournament kicks off on June 12, with Australia set to face South Africa in Manchester on June 13.
