Mumbai Indians Coach Kieron Pollard Fined for Misconduct

Mumbai Indians’ batting coach, Kieron Pollard, has been fined 15% of his match fee due to inappropriate language directed at the fourth umpire during a recent game. The former West Indies star received one demerit point for this Level 1 breach of the IPL Code of Conduct.

The incident occurred in the 19th over of Mumbai’s match against Punjab Kings on Thursday night. Pollard acknowledged his mistake and accepted the punishment from match referee Pankaj Dharmani.

Exciting Finish: Mumbai Beats Punjab

This recent match was quite thrilling, with Mumbai Indians winning by six wickets in a nail-biting finish at Dharamsala. The victory put a significant dent in Punjab Kings’ hopes for the playoffs, marking their fifth consecutive loss. To keep their chances alive for a top-four finish, Punjab must win their remaining matches.

Mumbai was set a target of 201 runs, and Ryan Rickelton got them off to a strong start with a dazzling 48 runs off just 23 balls. While Rohit Sharma struggled early on with only 25 runs, Rickelton found the gaps, dealing heavy damage to the Punjab bowlers, especially targeting Azmatullah Omarzai and Marco Jansen.

Punjab did manage to take three wickets for 57 runs between the seventh and thirteenth overs, largely due to a great spell from Yuzvendra Chahal, who dismissed Rohit Sharma. But Tilak Varma played a crucial role in the chase, scoring an impressive 75 not out from 33 balls, leading Mumbai to victory with two sixes in the final over.

Shardul Thakur Shines for Mumbai

Earlier, Punjab Kings batted first and exceeded the 200-run mark for the eighth time this season. Prabhsimran Singh was a standout performer, scoring 57 and forming successful partnerships to help Punjab reach a competitive total.

However, Mumbai’s Shardul Thakur returned to form with a brilliant four-wicket haul, finishing with figures of 4 for 39. He was instrumental in turning the game around by dismissing key players, including Prabhsimran and stand-in skipper Shreyas Iyer. Despite a late surge from Azmatullah Omarzai, who scored a quick 38 runs in just 17 balls, Punjab’s total fell short against a determined Mumbai side.

In the end, it was Tilak Varma’s outstanding performance that secured a memorable win for the Mumbai Indians.
