U.S. Military Targets Suspected Drug Vessel in Caribbean
The U.S. military recently executed a strike on a vessel believed to be involved in drug trafficking in the Caribbean, resulting in the deaths of two individuals. This operation was confirmed by U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM).
On May 4, at the command of Gen. Francis L. Donovan, the Joint Task Force Southern Spear carried out what officials described as a “lethal kinetic strike.” They reported that the vessel was following known drug trafficking routes and was allegedly associated with recognized terrorist groups.
Officials noted that the strike was part of an ongoing mission targeting narcotics trafficking in Latin American waters, which has been active since September and has led to over 188 fatalities during various operations. The recent incident involved two men labeled as “narco-terrorists.” Thankfully, no U.S. military personnel were injured in the operation.
In the past few weeks, such military actions have increased, despite ongoing challenges the U.S. faces in other global conflicts. U.S. officials see this campaign as a crucial effort against narcotics-related terrorism in the region.
