Union Health Secretary Launches ‘Fire Safety Week’ Nationwide
On Monday, Union Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava will kick off a nationwide ‘Fire Safety Week’. This initiative, in cooperation with all states, Union Territories (UTs), and Central Ministries, aims to boost awareness on preventing fire hazards, according to an official announcement on Sunday.
The ‘Fire Safety Week’, scheduled from May 4 to 10, will begin a series of activities aimed at raising awareness and preparedness across the country. During the opening event, the Health Secretary will lead a pledge on ‘Fire Safety in Health Facilities’. This pledge will emphasize the commitment of all parties involved to follow fire safety rules strictly and to create a safer environment in healthcare settings.
Throughout the week, states and UTs will organize various activities, including awareness campaigns and mock drills, to strengthen fire safety preparedness. The plan also includes sharing fire safety guidelines to help healthcare workers and managers better understand fire prevention, emergency responses, and evacuation procedures.
This initiative highlights the Health Ministry’s dedication to protecting patients, healthcare professionals, and essential facilities by promoting effective fire safety measures and building a safety-focused culture in healthcare services.
In a different yet significant development, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare recently unveiled the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) 2.0 Guidelines, which enhance child health services nationwide. These guidelines were introduced during a national summit focused on improving public healthcare delivery.
The RBSK 2.0 Guidelines represent an important upgrade to India’s child health screening program, which has been in place for over ten years. They aim to adapt to new child health challenges while reinforcing the established 4Ds approach—Defects at Birth, Diseases, Deficiencies, and Developmental Delays. Additionally, they address modern health issues like non-communicable diseases and mental health concerns.
This move showcases the government’s commitment to advancing child health and ensuring that emerging health priorities are met effectively.
