Hyderabad, India – June 24: US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, recently emphasized the strengthening relationship between India and the United States during a gala event in Hyderabad, celebrating the 250th anniversary of American Independence. He noted that the close bond between US President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has opened up a world of opportunities for both countries.
At the event, Ambassador Gor expressed optimism about how the India-US partnership is set to influence global dynamics for many years ahead. He stated, “The trust between our leaders is key to unlocking our potential. I believe these years will significantly shape the future of our world.”
Reflecting on the various areas of collaboration, Gor pointed out that India and the US are actively partnering in sectors such as defense, trade, pharmaceuticals, space exploration, and emerging technologies. “In every field, whether it’s space, defense, or healthcare, the US and India are working closely together,” he remarked.
He also highlighted the defense relationship, mentioning that India conducts more military exercises with the US than with any other country. Additionally, he noted that India exports more goods to the US than to any other partner.
Trust plays a vital role in this partnership, as Gor shared that India was one of the first countries included in the US-led “Pax Silica” initiative. He underscored India’s crucial role in supplying medicines to the US market, explaining, “Today, 40% of our generic medicines come from India. This trust is what drives this relationship.”
Discussions on a potential bilateral trade agreement are moving forward rapidly, according to the ambassador. “I met with Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal earlier today, and we are very close to finalizing a trade deal,” he added.
Ambassador Gor also shared his personal connection to India, recounting his first visit to the country 15 years ago. He praised its rich diversity and vibrant culture, saying that India remains one of his favorite countries to visit.
“The United States is here because we trust you and want to collaborate,” he affirmed, reiterating Washington’s commitment to strengthening ties with India. With confidence, he declared, “I believe that 250 years from now, our two nations will be even better friends than we are today.”
The event not only celebrated American Independence but also fostered cultural and diplomatic exchanges between representatives from both India and the United States. The US declared its independence from Britain on July 4, 1776.
