Hello, tech enthusiasts! Welcome to “In Case You Missed It,” our weekly roundup of the latest news in embedded technologies.

Today is May 1, 2026. I’m Ken Briodagh, Editor in Chief, and here’s what’s making headlines this week.

We begin with some important updates in the mergers and acquisitions space. Altair has successfully completed its exit from Sony Semi while securing a new round of funding. In another announcement, Marvell revealed that it plans to acquire the silicon photonics company, Polariton.

Next up, Northern.tech has rolled out a new version of Mender that now supports microcontrollers (MCUs). This new Mender MCU client offers the same high-quality over-the-air (OTA) update capabilities that major companies like Airbus, Siemens, Volkswagen, and ZF Group currently utilize. The update also adds support for the Zephyr RTOS, complete with a reference device to help new users get started.

Finally, we turn to Microchip, which is expanding its Trust Shield series of devices. The new editions include the TS1800 Platform Root of Trust controller and the TS50x secure boot controller. These devices aim to help designers meet new cybersecurity requirements like the European Cyber Resilience Act and Commercial National Security Algorithm Suite 2.0, while also keeping pace with evolving security standards across data centers, computing, defense, telecommunications, and infrastructure.

In our new segment, Ken’s Trends, we’ll discuss the EU Cybersecurity Resiliency Act and its impact on the automotive industry. This segment is part of the lead-up to the upcoming Automotive Technologies Virtual Conference.

This conference is scheduled for May 14 and will focus on embedded technologies and trends in the automotive sector, featuring insights from experts and industry leaders. It’s not too late to register, and you can do so at embeddedcomputing.com/webcasts. There’s also limited availability for speakers, so if you or someone you know would like to contribute, please reach out to us.

Don’t forget to check out the “In Case You Missed It” LinkedIn Newsletter for more updates, which comes out every Monday.
