Omalur Assembly Constituency Overview
Omalur Assembly constituency, situated in the Salem district of Tamil Nadu, plays a significant role in the region’s political landscape. It is part of the larger Salem Lok Sabha constituency and has been a battleground for major political parties like the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), as well as regional players such as the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK). In the 2016 Assembly elections, Omalur had a total of 2,65,892 registered voters, with 2,27,295 of them casting valid votes. Historically, Omalur has experienced a variety of electoral outcomes. The seat was won by PMK’s Tamizharasu A in 2006, while AIADMK’s Semmalai S claimed victory in 2001.
