Election Commission Implements QR Code Verification for Counting Halls

NEW DELHI: The Election Commission (EC) has rolled out a new QR code-based verification system to manage who can enter counting halls on May 4, the day official poll results are announced. This system will be used in future elections for both the Lok Sabha and state/UT assemblies.

On the day of counting, a thorough security process will be in place. There will be three levels of checks to verify identities at counting centers. Initially, at the first and second levels, officials will manually check photo ID cards issued by the respective returning officers.

At the final level, where security is most stringent, entry to the counting hall will only be allowed after individuals successfully scan their QR codes. New QR code-enabled photo ID cards will be provided for various groups authorized by the EC to access the counting areas.
