Health Officials Act Against Hospital Following Surgery Complaints

Chandrapur: The health department in Maharashtra’s Chandrapur has taken serious action against Christanand Hospital in Bramhapuri. Authorities have stopped the hospital’s registration and closed its operation theatre and patient admission areas after reports emerged that infections from cataract surgeries resulted in severe vision loss for at least three patients.

Civil surgeon Dr. Mahadev Chinchole acted on Monday, following an initial investigation that revealed the hospital was not following the rules set out in the Bombay Nursing Home Act of 1949 and had significant deficiencies in caring for eye patients.

Complaints poured in after several cataract procedures led to infections and irreversible vision damage. It was discovered that surgeries were performed without the proper eye-care facilities, which is against safety regulations.

In response to the situation, the hospital has paused all admissions and stated that it is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
