Unusual Incident at Indian Bank: Man Brings Sister’s Remains to Withdraw Money

In a startling incident in India, a man named Jeetu Munda, age 50, was seen carrying the skeletal remains of his sister to a bank, attempting to prove her death in order to access her funds. This unusual event unfolded in the Keonjhar district of Odisha, roughly 180 miles from Kolkata.

According to reports, Munda had exhumed his sister Kalra Munda’s remains after struggling to provide sufficient proof of her death. She passed away in January at the age of 56, and he was attempting to withdraw approximately 20,000 rupees (around $211) from her bank account.

In a shocking video, Munda is captured shirtless and barefoot, walking through the streets with the skeletal remains wrapped in a shawl. He arrived at the Odisha Grameen Bank, only to be met with disbelief at the entrance.

Munda shared his frustrations with reporters, saying, “I have visited the bank multiple times. They insisted that I bring my sister to them to withdraw the money.” He expressed exasperation over the demands of the bank staff, stating that they did not believe him when he explained that she had passed away.

Local police noted that Munda, who is illiterate and from a tribal background, did not understand the legal process necessary to claim his sister’s inheritance. Police Inspector Kiran Prasad Sahu explained that Munda was unfamiliar with terms like “legal heir” or “nominee,” which contributed to the confusion.

After the incident, authorities assisted Munda in following the proper legal steps to access the funds. They also ensured that Kalra’s remains were respectfully reburied under police supervision.

The chairman of the Odisha Grameen Bank referred to the event as “deeply unfortunate,” but emphasized that the bank staff acted according to protocol. Despite the bizarre nature of the situation, Munda reportedly provided inconsistent details about his sister’s condition when questioned.

Bank representatives stated that Munda had been informed about the necessary documentation, such as a death certificate, but he returned with his sister’s remains in a desperate attempt to prove her death. The incident caused quite a stir among both bank employees and customers, prompting police intervention.

Thankfully, Munda is not expected to face any legal charges related to this incident.
