Riyan Parag Under Fire for Vape Incident During IPL Match

Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag is making headlines once again, this time for a controversial moment during his team’s match against Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. A clip from the game, which has gone viral on social media, appears to show Parag using a vape in the team’s dressing room.

The incident took place during the 16th over of Rajasthan’s chase for 223 runs on April 28, in Mullanpur. Fans quickly took notice, and the clip sparked widespread online discussion.

What Happened?

The video that caught everyone’s attention shows Parag in the RR dressing room during the second innings, seemingly vaping while the match was still in progress. This moment was broadcasted and quickly shared across various platforms.

According to IPL rules, smoking is not allowed in dressing rooms or stadium areas, except in specified locations. The matter is particularly concerning because electronic cigarettes and vapes are banned in India under The Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act (PECA), 2019, which forbids their manufacture, sale, purchase, and use. Violating this law could lead to fines or even jail time.

Even with this controversy, Rajasthan Royals managed to achieve a six-wicket victory, handing Punjab Kings their first loss of the season. However, Parag’s own performance was modest; he scored 29 runs off 16 balls, with Donovan Ferreira and Shubham Dubey finishing the chase.

Pressure Mounting on Parag

Riyan Parag’s performance this season has left much to be desired. In nine matches, he has only 117 runs to his name, averaging 14.63 with a strike rate of 124.47. This has added extra pressure on him as both a player and captain.

Potential Consequences

As of now, the IPL has not issued any official statement regarding the vaping incident or any potential penalties for Parag. However, discussions surrounding possible disciplinary actions are already underway.

In the past, the IPL has taken strict measures against breaches of conduct. Earlier this season, Rajasthan Royals team manager Romi Bhinder was fined for using a phone in the dugout during a match.

Similar to other recent viral clips involving players, the league has consistently acted against rule violations. If authorities find Parag’s actions to be against IPL regulations, he could face fines or other penalties. For now, the cricketing world is keenly watching to see how the league will handle this situation.

Conclusion

As the IPL 2026 season continues, all eyes are on Riyan Parag both for his on-field performance and for how the league will respond to this off-field incident. The story serves as a reminder of the scrutiny players face in the public eye, and the importance of adhering to league rules.
