Mithali Raj Celebrates India’s Cricket Success

Former captain of the Indian women’s cricket team, Mithali Raj, has expressed her excitement as her long-held dream of seeing India excel in world cricket is becoming a reality. Speaking at the BCCI Naman Awards in Mumbai on March 15, Mithali highlighted the success of the men’s, women’s, and junior teams as evidence of cricket’s growth in the country.

In recent years, India has made remarkable strides in various global tournaments. Mithali noted that it’s fulfilling to witness consistent performances from Indian cricket at all levels. She remarked, “For the longest time, I wanted Indian cricket to dominate, and the time has come.”

The former captain added that the achievements across different formats reflect the overall development of the sport in India. “In the last two to three years, Indian cricket—men, women, and under-19 teams—has been performing exceptionally well. It’s a proud moment for me as a former player,” she shared.

India’s Cricketing Triumphs

India’s recent success on the world stage started when the men’s team broke their long wait for an ICC title by winning the T20 World Cup in 2024. The women’s team followed this up with a stunning victory in the ODI World Cup, marking their first ICC title win.

India further solidified its status in cricket by defending their T20 World Cup title in 2026, making history as the first team to achieve this feat. This victory was particularly special as it came on home ground.

The trend of success is not just limited to the senior teams; India’s junior sides have also made their mark. The Under-19 men’s and women’s teams have each secured world titles, elevating India’s reputation as a cricket powerhouse.

For Mithali, who dedicated nearly 20 years to representing India and played a crucial role in promoting women’s cricket, this period is an incredibly proud moment for the sport.
