Sahibzada Farhan Sets New T20 World Cup Record

In a remarkable turn of events, Pakistani opener Sahibzada Farhan shattered a T20 World Cup record that had stood for 12 years. On Saturday, during a crucial Super 8 match against Sri Lanka in Pallekele, Farhan surpassed the all-time runs record in a single T20 World Cup edition previously held by India’s Virat Kohli.

The 28-year-old batsman achieved this milestone while batting in a must-win match after Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bowl first. Farhan made history when he scored his 39th run, breaking Kohli’s record that had been in place since the 2014 tournament.

Interestingly, five of the top run-scorers in a single T20 World Cup edition are from Asian countries. The last player to come close to Kohli’s record was Pakistan’s Babar Azam, who scored 303 runs in the 2022 T20 World Cup but couldn’t surpass Kohli’s impressive total.

Most Runs in a Single T20 World Cup Edition

  1. Sahibzada Farhan (Pakistan) – 320 runs (2026)
  2. Virat Kohli (India) – 319 runs (2014)
  3. Tilakaratne Dilshan (Sri Lanka) – 317 runs (2009)
  4. Babar Azam (Pakistan) – 303 runs (2022)
  5. Mahela Jayawardene (Sri Lanka) – 302 runs (2010)

As the tournament progresses, cricket fans eagerly await updates on the latest matches and performances.
