Lucknow: Mayor Critiques Municipal Officials for Delays in Projects
In Lucknow, a recent meeting of the city’s Municipal Corporation Executive Committee (EC) concluded without any decisions being made. Mayor Sushma Kharakwal expressed her disappointment with the civic administration for failing to act on previously passed resolutions.
Several proposals, including the removal of illegal encroachments, the transfer of health dispensaries, and the development of vending zones, are still pending. Additionally, there are unresolved plans for licensing battery-operated rickshaws and building facilities like a women’s toilet in Nakkhas Bazar.
Past approvals also include projects like a Kalyan Mandap in Alamnagar, park renovations, and various memorial installations, all of which have yet to move forward. This issue also extends to stalled initiatives under the Amrit 2.0 project.
During the meeting, the Mayor pointed out that officials have overlooked crucial decisions made by the EC, wasting both public funds and the time of elected representatives. She highlighted ongoing issues like sanitation, road repairs, and street lighting that remain unaddressed.
Kharakwal critiqued the process of handling the revised budget, stating it should have been discussed instead of sent through email. “The budget is not mere paperwork; it shapes the future of our city,” she remarked.
The Mayor declared that no further meetings would be held until the administration implements the prior decisions. “As public representatives, we voice the concerns of our citizens. Ignoring us is equivalent to ignoring the people of Lucknow,” she concluded.
