Want to Follow Your Team in the FIFA World Cup? Here’s What It Might Cost
Have you ever dreamed of traveling to see your favorite team play in every match of the FIFA World Cup? Well, brace yourself! According to estimates, it could cost around $62,000 for two people to follow one of the 48 teams through all its games.
The biggest part of this expense comes from the tickets, which alone can take up about half of the total cost. For two people, tickets could reach around $31,000. If your team makes it to the finals, which will be held at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey (or, as it’s now called, New York-New Jersey Stadium—no logos allowed during FIFA events), that ticket will set you back about $15,500 for two.
When looking at costs per country, fans from Iraq are facing the highest total expenses, estimated at about $74,000, with flights costing around $24,000. On the other hand, fans of Panama have a more budget-friendly option, with an estimated cost of just $56,000 for two. The Czech Republic fans are not far off at around $57,000, while Mexico, which will host some matches, is estimated at about $58,000.
For U.S. fans hoping to support their team from the group stage to the finals, they’ll need to save approximately $63,000 for two. This includes about $34,000 for tickets, $16,100 for places to stay in cities like Los Angeles and Seattle, around $6,700 for flights, and approximately $6,200 for food and drinks.
But if this seems too pricey, don’t worry! Many people will be enjoying watch parties, most of which are free, or tuning in to Fox Sports, which will broadcast 70 key matches during the tournament.
