Manchester United’s Winning Streak Continues with Thrilling Victory Over Brighton
Manchester United’s resurgence under coach Ruben Amorim gained momentum on Saturday as they secured an exciting 4-2 win against Brighton at Old Trafford. This victory marks their third consecutive win in the Premier League, a feat they haven’t achieved since February 2024.
With this win, United climbed to fourth place in the league standings, amassing 16 points from nine matches. Amorim has now led the team to three consecutive victories, signaling a positive turn in their fortune.
Bryan Mbeumo played a key role in the match, scoring two goals that highlighted a game filled with action. United initially seemed to be in control after an hour, with goals from Matheus Cunha, Casemiro, and Mbeumo putting them in a strong position. However, Brighton fought back late in the game, causing some anxious moments for the home supporters.
Cunha opened the scoring in style, making his first goal for United by curling a low shot past Brighton’s goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen. This goal broke his streak of 16 games without finding the net. “It’s hard to describe. I was joking with my teammates because I needed to feel that. To play for this club I grew up admiring is a dream come true,” Cunha said after the match.
He then scored again, this time with a shot that took a significant deflection, leaving the goalkeeper unable to react. Despite some impressive saves from Verbruggen against Benjamin Sesko and Bruno Fernandes — who celebrated his 300th appearance for United — Mbeumo soon added to the tally with a clinical finish.
Brighton did not give up easily. Danny Welbeck, a former United player, pulled one back with a stunning free-kick, raising hopes for the visitors. A foul by Patrick Dorgu led to the free-kick, and although Brighton’s bench felt it deserved a harsher penalty, the referee opted for a yellow card.
In the dying moments of the game, substitute Charalampos Kostoulas scored for Brighton, making it 4-2 and setting the stage for a nail-biting finish. However, Mbeumo quickly extinguished any hopes of a full comeback by scoring again to seal the victory for United.
For Amorim, who was under pressure following a disappointing run just weeks ago, the mood has shifted dramatically. United appears to be playing with newfound confidence and flair, suggesting that they have moved past their early-season struggles. While they might not stay in fourth place for long, the team’s recent momentum has certainly lifted the spirits of fans and players alike.
