Varun Chakravarthy Shines as KKR Dominates RR in IPL Match
In a thrilling encounter at Eden Gardens on Sunday, Varun Chakravarthy showcased his exceptional talent, leading Kolkata Knight Riders to a strong victory against Rajasthan Royals. Thanks to Chakravarthy’s outstanding bowling performance, Rajasthan was restricted to 155 runs for nine wickets in Match 28 of the Indian Premier League.
With this impressive display, Chakravarthy reached a significant milestone, becoming the fastest Indian spinner to take 200 wickets in T20 cricket. He achieved this feat in just 155 innings, surpassing Kuldeep Yadav’s record of 160 innings and now stands second overall among Indian bowlers, just behind Arshdeep Singh, who reached the mark in 151 innings.

Chakravarthy’s historic achievement came when he dismissed Vaibhav Sooryavanshi on his very first delivery, marking a critical turning point in the match.
Rajasthan began their innings with a solid start, as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sooryavanshi posted 63 runs during the powerplay, scoring rapidly against KKR’s pacers. However, KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane chose to delay using spin, which ultimately worked against them.
Once Chakravarthy was introduced, he quickly made an impact. His flighted delivery prompted Sooryavanshi to misfire a slog sweep, leading to a catch at deep midwicket. This wicket disrupted Rajasthan’s positive momentum and ignited a batting collapse.
From a promising 63 runs without loss, Rajasthan found themselves stumbling at 118 for 4 by the 15th over. Sooryavanshi scored a valuable 46 runs off 28 balls, while Jaiswal contributed 39 off 29. Quick dismissals of Riyan Parag (12) and Dhruv Jurel (5) further slowed their scoring rate.
Chakravarthy displayed his skill in a superb bowling session, finishing with figures of 3 wickets for just 14 runs. He only allowed five runs in his first over and took two crucial wickets early on. Sunil Narine was also impressive, taking two wickets and helping reduce Rajasthan to 124/5 in the 16th over.
Despite a late effort from Kartik Tyagi, who picked up 3 wickets for 22 runs, including key batsmen Ravindra Jadeja and Shimron Hetmyer, the damage was already done. Rajasthan ended their innings with a disappointing total, unable to recover after losing wickets in key moments.
