U.S. Authorities Arrest Indian-Origin Driver with Controversial License

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has arrested an Indian-origin driver, identified as Anmol Anmol, who was issued a commercial driver’s license (CDL) by New York State under the unusual name “No Name Given Anmol.”

The arrest comes as part of a major crackdown by the U.S. government on illegal immigration. The incident occurred during a routine check by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol on September 23, 2025, at a truck weigh station on I-40.

According to the DHS, record checks by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) revealed that Anmol is an undocumented immigrant from India. He allegedly entered the U.S. illegally in 2023 and was previously released into the country under the Biden administration.

In a tweet, the DHS highlighted the risks associated with allowing undocumented immigrants to hold commercial driver’s licenses, suggesting that it poses a threat to public safety. Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin stated, “Permitting illegal immigrants to operate 18-wheelers is incredibly dangerous. Thanks to the joint efforts of ICE and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Anmol is no longer a threat on our highways.”

McLaughlin criticized New York officials for not adequately verifying the citizenship status of CDL applicants, as well as for issuing licenses without confirming a person’s full legal name. She emphasized that DHS is working with various local and state partners to ensure illegal immigrant truck drivers are removed from the roads.

In response, an official from the New York Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) defended the issuance of the license, stating that the individual possesses lawful status in the U.S. through a valid federal employment authorization received in March, affirming that the license was issued following all appropriate procedures, including identity verification.
