The Hindi version of Kantara: A Legend – Chapter 1 has performed impressively at the box office, grossing ₹75 crores over its extended four-day weekend. Positive reviews are encouraging viewers to keep coming to theaters, and it looks like the film will continue its successful run leading up to Diwali. However, some moviegoers have raised concerns about the sound quality.
Cinema managers from various locations have reported complaints from audiences who feel that the background music sometimes drowns out the dialogue. “In certain scenes, especially at the beginning, the music is much louder than the dialogue, making it hard to hear what the characters are saying,” noted one multiplex official from Mumbai. They emphasized that although these issues are minor, it would have been better if they had been fixed before the film’s release.
Another manager from a suburban cinema echoed this sentiment, stating that such problems should have been avoided. “People often think the cinema has poor sound systems, but that’s not always the case,” they said.
On social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter), viewers are sharing their experiences. One user highlighted the mixing issues and low dialogue levels compared to the loud music. Others have also pointed out that the subtitles used in the film are too small, making them difficult to read.
Sachin Prabhu, who watched the film early on its opening day, mentioned, “Even on a large screen, I struggled to read the subtitles. They need to make them bigger or fully dub the movie in Hindi, especially since many prefer dubbed versions over subtitles.”
In the past, Hombale Films, which produced Kantara, has faced similar complaints regarding sound. For their hit film KGF – Chapter 2, many audiences felt the volume was excessively high, prompting the producers to send revised prints.
Following feedback on another recent project, Kanguva, the producer even requested theaters to lower the sound by a couple of notches.
As Kantara continues to draw audiences, it will be interesting to see how the production team responds to these technical complaints.
