Former Russian President Medvedev Criticizes European Leaders Over Trump Meeting
Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has taken a jab at European leaders, suggesting they stumbled during a recent meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Medvedev remarked that this group, known as the “Coalition of the Willing,” failed to effectively engage Trump during discussions focused on Ukraine.
The “Coalition of the Willing” includes notable leaders such as French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and Finnish President Alexander Stubb. NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen also participated in the discussions.
Medvedev expressed his discontent on social media, accusing European leaders of “thanking” and “sucking up” to Trump. He further questioned what Zelenskyy, whom Medvedev mockingly called “the Kiev clown,” might say regarding territorial guarantees once he returns to his military duties.
This meeting took place after Trump’s significant summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin, where they initiated plans for peace discussions aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Trump has indicated that further arrangements will involve a trilateral meeting with Zelenskyy and Putin.
In his remarks on social media, Trump affirmed U.S. commitment to supporting European security guarantees to prevent further Russian aggression in Ukraine.
Earlier in the day, a hot microphone caught Trump saying to Macron that Putin seemed eager to find a resolution to end the war, though a Russian official later downplayed those comments.
This ongoing dialogue highlights the complex dynamics at play in the region as leaders navigate a path towards peace.
