Mitchell Starc Closing in on 400 Test Wickets

Mitchell Starc is on the verge of becoming just the fourth Australian bowler—and the second fast bowler—to reach 400 Test wickets. The other bowlers who have achieved this milestone are Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath, and Nathan Lyon. Starc has the opportunity to reach this impressive landmark in Australia’s Day-Night Test against the West Indies, which begins on July 12 at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica.

As it stands, Starc has taken 395 wickets across 99 matches, boasting 15 five-wicket hauls and two ten-wicket hauls. His performance has been noteworthy in the current series, where he has claimed eight wickets in two games at an economy rate of 4.02, including a three-wicket haul.

  • Shane Warne: 708 wickets from 145 matches
  • Glenn McGrath: 563 wickets from 124 matches
  • Nathan Lyon: 562 wickets from 139 matches
  • Mitchell Starc: 395 wickets from 99 matches

Entering an Elite Club

Starc is also about to become the 16th Australian cricketer to play 100 or more Tests. Other renowned players in this category include Ricky Ponting, Steve Waugh, Allan Border, and more.

Australia has already secured the series victory with a commanding 133-run win at the National Cricket Stadium in St Georges, Grenada. Following these Tests, Australia will face the West Indies in a series of five T20 matches from July 20 to 28.
