Ishan Kishan is clearly making the most of his time in County cricket. The Indian wicketkeeper-batter has made a strong start for Nottinghamshire, scoring two fifties in his first two matches in the County Championship Division 1. In a fun moment during a drawn game against Somerset in Taunton, he even got to show off his bowling skills.
Kishan bowled both off-spin and leg-spin in just one over. His first delivery saw him mimicking the famous action of Harbhajan Singh, delivering the ball to Tom Kohler-Cadmore, who was batting in the 140s. He did an impressive job with his Harbhajan impression.
He then threw in a few straightforward off-spinners before switching to bowl leg-spin from a different angle, reminiscent of Shane Warne. Although his last ball drifted wide, the umpire decided not to call it a wide.
This over turned out to be the last of the match, and Kishan ended with figures of 0 for 1. A video of his unexpected bowling moment quickly gained traction on social media.
### Ishan’s Batting Performance
Somerset declared their second innings at 238 for 4, thanks to Kohler-Cadmore’s solid 147, giving them a lead of 108 runs before the draw was agreed. Earlier, they had scored 379 in their first innings, with key contributions from Tom Banton and Tom Abell. In response, Nottinghamshire racked up 509 runs in 163.2 overs, featuring centuries from Ben Slater (124) and Jack Haynes (157).
In the middle order, Ishan contributed a brisk 77 runs, hitting eight boundaries and two sixes. Just last month, in his County debut against Yorkshire, he scored 87 off 98 balls, including 12 fours and a six, in another drawn match.
At 26 years old, Kishan has been making the most of the quieter period in Indian cricket post-IPL. He missed out on selection for the current England tour but is staying sharp. He performed well in the recent IPL season, scoring 354 runs over 14 matches for SunRisers Hyderabad, his new team after seven seasons with the Mumbai Indians.
Even though he hasn’t played for India since November 2023, Kishan is clearly preparing himself for any upcoming chances in the 2024–25 season.
