IPL 2026: Fans Call for KKR to Part Ways with Captain Ajinkya Rahane After Disappointing Golden Duck Against GT

Kolkata Knight Riders Captain Under Pressure After Golden Duck

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Ajinkya Rahane faced harsh criticism once again after he was dismissed for a golden duck against the Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Friday. KKR, which is currently experiencing its longest losing streak in history, has made headlines on social media, with many fans unhappy about Rahane’s performance and ability to lead the team.

Rahane’s role as captain had already been questioned following KKR’s disappointing eighth-place finish in last season’s Indian Premier League, where they won only five out of 14 matches. The new season hasn’t started any better for the franchise, as they have yet to secure a win in their first five games, only gaining points due to a washout against the Punjab Kings.

His latest dismissal has intensified calls from fans on social media demanding his removal as captain. One user even suggested that KKR should consider appointing Shane Watson as the head coach and let him take the reins. Currently, Abhishek Nayar is the head coach with Shane Watson as the assistant.

“The team just needs to drop Ajinkya Rahane, and they could shine,” commented another fan, recommending Rovman Powell as the new captain.

Is Captaincy the Problem?

Last season, Rahane was the top run-scorer for KKR, amassing 390 runs, yet there were ongoing questions about his decision-making as a captain. This season, even though he has scored 152 runs in six innings, his leadership qualities are still being scrutinized.

Former India cricketer Kris Srikkanth shared his thoughts on his YouTube channel, saying he would give Rahane a couple more chances before considering changing the captaincy. “Rahane should focus on leading the team, and only bat if absolutely necessary. Making him captain was questionable to begin with. But will they have the courage to make a strong decision now?” he questioned.

Following Rahane’s first-ball dismissal, KKR’s batting lineup struggled once more, leading to another disappointing performance during the powerplay.

As the team and fans wait to see how things will unfold, the pressure is mounting on Ajinkya Rahane and the entire KKR franchise.
