Pakistan’s Artists See Partial Restoration on Instagram in India

Following the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians, mainly Hindu tourists, the Indian government took decisive actions. One of those actions was Operation Sindoor, aimed at dismantling terrorist operations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

As a result of these heightened tensions, India imposed restrictions on numerous Pakistani social media accounts, affecting many well-known actors like Mahira Khan, Hania Aamir, and Ali Zafar.

However, a shift occurred on July 2, 2025, when the Instagram accounts of several Pakistani artists, including Mawra Hocane, Saba Qamar, Ahad Raza Mir, Yumna Zaidi, and Danish Taimoor, became accessible to Indian users once again. Despite this positive change, the accounts of other popular figures such as Fawad Khan, Mahira Khan, Hania Aamir, and Atif Aslam remain blocked in India, with a message indicating that the accounts are unavailable due to legal restrictions.

This uneven restoration of accounts has led to debates among social media users, many of whom are questioning the criteria that dictate which accounts are allowed and which remain blocked. Some have voiced their frustration over the inconsistency in these measures and called for a more balanced approach.

This situation reflects the intricate relationship between politics, security, and the online presence of public personalities. As the dynamics between India and Pakistan continue to evolve, the accessibility of social media accounts for artists remains a sensitive subject.
