Shah Rukh Khan’s Mannat Faces Scrutiny from Authorities Over Coastal Rule Breach

Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan’s well-known bungalow, Mannat, in Bandra, Mumbai, is currently under investigation. On Friday, officials from both the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the forest department visited the site due to a complaint alleging that renovations at the property might be violating Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) rules.

The inspection was initiated after claims surfaced regarding possible breaches of permissions related to the renovation. An official from the forest department confirmed the visit, stating that they received a complaint about the renovation permissions. They mentioned, “A team inspected the site, and we will prepare a report based on our findings to be submitted soon.”

Officials from the BMC’s H-West ward were also present during the inspection. However, the BMC clarified that their role was minimal and that they were only there upon the forest department’s request. “Our officials were only accompanying the team at the request of the forest department,” a BMC officer noted.

During the inspection, staff members at Mannat assured officials that they had all the necessary documents and permissions, which would be made available for review. In response to the situation, Shah Rukh Khan’s manager stated that there were no complaints against the renovations and that all work was being carried out in accordance with the guidelines.

This inspection follows recent concerns raised by former IPS officer and lawyer Y P Singh regarding the property’s historical and legal standing. Singh asserted that the original layout of Mannat included a heritage structure called Villa Vienna, which was later renamed. He also alleged that a seven-story extension was added in 2005, along with approval for twelve small flats from the BMC, which were later merged into a lavish single-family residence.

As the review of Mannat’s renovation continues, discussions about heritage conservation and urban planning in Mumbai’s coastal regions have intensified. More details are expected after the inspection report is completed.
