Vikram Bhatt is facing legal challenges with his upcoming horror film, Haunted – Echoes Of The Past. Just ten days before its release, he received a legal notice from Lakshmi Ganpathy Films, demanding a payment of Rs. 19 lakhs. The producer has warned that if the payment isn’t made, they will pursue legal action to stop the film’s release.
The notice was issued on June 3, 2026, by Advocate Nagesh Mishra on behalf of M. Ramesh, who owns Lakshmi Ganpathy Films. It states that the issue stems from a Memorandum of Understanding signed on July 3, 2023, under the film’s earlier title, Haunted Winter.
Originally, Lakshmi Ganpathy Films agreed to fund the project, expecting to share profits equally. The notice claims the company invested Rs. 94 lakhs and that later agreements modified the production budget, introducing Anand Pandit Motion Pictures as a co-producer through a tripartite agreement.
Despite a cancellation agreement that relinquished Lakshmi Ganpathy Films’ rights, Bhatt supposedly agreed to pay Rs. 50 lakhs in profits and refund their investment. The notice also mentions financial dealings related to Bhatt’s earlier film, 1920. It states that after adjustments, Bhatt still owes Rs. 19 lakhs, and both parties had reportedly agreed that the film should not be released until this amount was settled.
The notice asks Vikram Bhatt to pay the Rs. 19 lakhs, along with interest, within ten days. If he fails to do so, Lakshmi Ganpathy Films plans to take legal steps and may seek an injunction to prevent the release of Haunted – Echoes Of The Past until the debt is cleared.
