Cinnaminson Library Undergoes Exciting Renovations
The Cinnaminson Library has been a community hub since it opened in 1966, featuring large windows and beautiful arched ceilings. The library’s spacious layout allowed residents from Cinnaminson, Delran, and Palmyra to enjoy a quiet place to read and research.
Over the years, the library expanded its offerings, especially during renovations in the 1990s that added a dedicated children’s area and meeting rooms. Now, another significant renovation is underway, which began on April 6 of this year. This upgrade aims to create tech and teen spaces, along with two new unisex bathrooms, including one that is handicap accessible.
Librarian Nancy Fort expressed her excitement about the changes, stating, “I can’t wait for the renovations to be finished. Everyone is going to love it! The new space will allow us to offer fresh services. We’re aiming for a grand opening in July.”
The renovation includes the removal of book shelves to make way for a tech center that will host computer literacy classes and a cozy teen corner filled with popular books. “The tech center will be more like a classroom where we can teach skills like internet basics, using Excel, and spotting scams,” Fort explained. She has been with the Burlington County Library System for 18 years, serving as Cinnaminson’s librarian for the past nine.
Fort enjoys assisting library visitors, recently helping a woman prepare documents for a job offer. “We teach people how to navigate the digital world, from signing up for Social Security to applying for unemployment,” she shared.
Despite the renovations, both staff and patrons have shown great patience. “Our staff has been incredible during this time. They have kept everything running smoothly and are excited for the grand reopening,” Fort noted. She also praised library patrons for their continued support throughout the construction.
The $300,000 renovation project is funded by a state grant facilitated by State Senator Troy Singleton and the Friends of the Cinnaminson Library. Community members are looking forward to the new teenage area, which will make the library more inviting for younger visitors. Burlington County Commissioner Randy Brolo emphasized the importance of physical spaces, saying, “Even in a digital age, libraries still matter.”
With the renovation, the Cinnaminson Library will soon offer new tools, including a Cricut laser cutter, allowing for even more innovative educational opportunities. As summer approaches, the library looks forward to unveiling its new spaces and continuing to serve the community.
