Pat Cummins Reflects on India’s Absence in WTC Final: “You Always Hope to See Them There”

Australia’s Captain Welcomes Fresh Faces in World Test Championship Final

Australia’s cricket captain, Pat Cummins, expressed his excitement about the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) final, highlighting that it’s refreshing to see a matchup that doesn’t involve India. The final is set to take place against South Africa on June 11 at Lord’s.

This year marks a significant change as India, a regular in recent finals, will not be competing. They finished third on the points table, securing just half of the available points. Cummins noted that while India has been a constant presence, it’s nice to see other teams like South Africa in play.

He commented, “It’s unusual to have a final without India, who has been quite strong. England and New Zealand often reach this stage too, but South Africa also has a strong track record in ICC events, even if we don’t often see them in Test matches.”

Cummins is keen to defend the title after leading Australia to victory in the 2023 WTC final against India, where they won by 209 runs, and also securing the ODI World Cup, defeating India once again.

Regarding criticisms of South Africa’s path to the final, Cummins emphasized that teams can only compete against whom they are matched. He respected South Africa’s achievements, noting, “Their bowling attack has always been impressive, with players like Keshav Maharaj and several fast bowlers who can be very challenging.”

In this WTC cycle, South Africa played against teams like India, New Zealand, and Pakistan, ultimately coming out on top with a points percentage of 69.44%. Meanwhile, Australia faced tough competition from England, New Zealand, and others on their way to the final.

As the teams prepare for this exciting clash, cricket fans around the world are eager to see who will emerge victorious in this thrilling WTC showdown.
