Xabi Alonso Appointed as New Manager of Real Madrid
Real Madrid has officially announced that Xabi Alonso will become their new manager starting on June 1, 2025. He replaces Carlo Ancelotti, who is leaving to coach the Brazil national team after the LaLiga season wraps up.
Alonso, who recently stepped down from his role at Bayer Leverkusen, had a successful run there, leading them to a historic league title and a German Cup last season. However, this year, they lost the title to Bayern Munich, prompting Alonso to announce his departure.
The club’s president, Florentino Perez, will introduce Alonso at a signing event on May 26 at 12:30 PM local time. Following the signing, Alonso will speak to the media.
In a club statement, Real Madrid confirmed, "Xabi Alonso will be Real Madrid’s manager for the next three seasons, from June 1, 2025, to June 30, 2028." The statement also mentioned the upcoming presentation at Real Madrid City, which will follow the formal signing ceremony.
Alonso is a well-known figure at Real Madrid, having played for the team from 2009 to 2014, during which he made 236 appearances and earned six titles, including a Champions League trophy and a LaLiga championship.
He began his coaching career with Real Madrid’s youth academy, winning both the League and the Champions Tournament with the U14 A team in the 2018-2019 season. On the international stage, Alonso achieved great success with Spain, winning a World Cup and two European Championships.
