Morrisons has been named one of the finalists for the 2026 RTIH Innovation Awards, with the winners set to be revealed at a ceremony in Central London on November 4th.

The grocery giant has been recognized for its impressive technological upgrades aimed at improving the shopping experience for customers. One key initiative is the trial of AI-powered Caper Carts from Instacart, which facilitate autonomous checkouts.

Additionally, Morrisons has implemented digital Bluetooth probes in its Oven Fresh departments to automate food safety checks, ensuring that products meet safety standards. The retailer also introduced a Pick to Light system that uses digital labels on shelves to aid online order pickers.

Moreover, the rollout of the Everseen system has enhanced efficiency at the front end and improved measures to recover losses. These innovations are all contributing to greater efficiency and transforming how Morrisons operates.

For the Caper Carts project, Morrisons designed a special integration bridge to connect this new technology with its older systems in anticipation of a new point-of-sale rollout. The Everseen system also required connecting various technologies and involved extensive training for staff to ensure smooth operations.

As for the Bluetooth probing, all 475 Oven Fresh counters were upgraded to allow for continuous temperature checks and instant alerts, which helps Morrisons improve its merchandising practices. The Pick to Light initiative, now in 200 stores and still expanding, has increased productivity with the help of regional experts demonstrating its use.

And the winners are…

The winners will be announced at the 2026 RTIH Innovation Awards Ceremony at The HAC in Central London on November 4th. This year, there was a record number of submissions, showcasing remarkable technology advancements that are making a difference in the retail industry.

Congratulations to all the nominees who made it through the initial selection! The final decision will be made by a distinguished panel of judges who will choose the ultimate winners to be honored in November.

The event promises to be a grand celebration, featuring a drinks reception, a three-course dinner, and an awards ceremony hosted by the talented Aurie Styla, who is known for his work as a stand-up comedian and broadcaster. There will also be an after-party that continues until 1 AM.

Make sure to secure your spot at the 2026 RTIH Innovation Awards Ceremony on November 4th!
