Bose Expands Its Reach by Acquiring Skullcandy
In a significant move in the audio industry, Bose, a leader in sound technology, has officially acquired Skullcandy. This acquisition aims to help Bose connect with new audiences through the popular Skullcandy brand, while Skullcandy will gain access to Bose’s advanced technology and audio expertise for future products.
As part of the deal, Skullcandy will continue to operate as a distinct brand under the Bose umbrella, maintaining its unique identity and product lines. The company will remain headquartered in Park City, Utah, where it was founded in 2003.
While the financial details of the acquisition have not been revealed, both companies expressed excitement about the collaboration. Bose plans to invest in enhancing Skullcandy’s offerings by providing access to cutting-edge technology, resources, and global distribution networks. Lila Snyder, the CEO of Bose, stated, “Skullcandy is an established, thriving brand with tremendous potential. Together, we can create innovative products and experiences that will reach more consumers around the world.”
Brian Garofalow, the CEO of Skullcandy, echoed this sentiment, noting that joining forces with Bose allows them to enhance their product offerings with Bose’s audio expertise, promising even better experiences for their customers.
Known for its strong ties to action sports, music, and athletes, Skullcandy is expected to introduce Bose to new customer segments, expanding its reach in the audio market. This acquisition follows a prior partnership during which Skullcandy integrated Bose technology, such as head-tracking spatial audio and active noise cancellation, into some of its wireless earbuds and headphones.
The acquisition of Skullcandy marks the third purchase for Bose this year. Earlier, the company acquired Firelight Technologies, which develops interactive audio software, and StreamUnlimited Engineering, known for its connected audio solutions. Additionally, Bose has plans for its own content studio and record label, dubbed Bose Studio and Bose Records, further broadening its presence in the audio space.
With the addition of Skullcandy, Bose not only enhances its portfolio but also strengthens its position in the competitive audio market.
