A surprising discovery was made at a girls’ hostel in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, where a 10-foot-long python was found inside a bathroom.
### What Happened
The students at the hostel spotted the snake and quickly alerted the hostel management. They called in Aqeel Baba, a snake rescuer, who arrived at the scene. After a brief struggle, he successfully captured the python.
During the rescue operation, a crowd gathered, with many people amazed at the snake’s impressive size.
### Background Information
According to Baba, the Tili area is close to hilly regions where pythons and other snakes are commonly seen. He explained that these snakes might enter residential buildings while looking for sheltered spots, especially during the monsoon season when their natural habitats are disrupted. Baba noted that he has rescued between 70 to 75 pythons from nearby housing schemes over time.
### What To Do If You Encounter a Snake
Baba advised the public not to attempt to touch or harm any snake or python they may find in homes or hostels. Instead, he encouraged people to reach out to trained professionals or local authorities to handle the situation safely. Each python he rescues is taken to a suitable location for release, with the help of Forest Department officials. Plans are in place to similarly release this latest python back into its natural habitat.
### Broader Context
This isn’t an isolated incident. There have been numerous reports of snakes, including cobras and pythons, appearing in homes and gardens across India and beyond. For instance:
– In Telangana, a snake catcher safely relocated an Indian cobra from a grandparent’s house.
– In Singapore, workers found a reticulated python near a drain, which was also removed by park contractors.
– In Delhi, experts warned that the monsoon season was driving more snakes into urban areas.
– Researchers across India noted that rising temperatures are changing snake behavior, leading to a higher risk of snake bites.
– In Dhaka, specialists mentioned that snakes often invade human settlements due to urban development.
This incident serves as a reminder to stay vigilant and seek professional help when dealing with wildlife in residential areas.
